Consultation was carried out with our visually impaired service users about what was important to them. One of the issues identified was loss of identity and self-worth after developing sight loss. Women with a vision impairment often said that they lost confidence and struggled with their self-esteem. It was apparent that feeling good with oneself is centred around one’s appearance.

Project Overview

Overview provided by crowdfunder.co.uk

Sight Life's Beautifully Blind - Make-up Application Tutorials deliver 12 structured training sessions covering all aspects of make-up application. Our strategy for sustainability is to create make-up champions from these service users to help empower women to deliver further courses and match demand. We want to engage with partners in health/social care to reach as many women of all ages as possible.

The sessions aim for people with vision impairments are:

·       To understand how to set an effective make-up application station (incorporating low vision therapy strategies)

·       To develop an understanding of the different equipment and products needed and what techniques work best for the individual needs.

·       To understand the construction and features of your face.

·       To develop via attending these practical and sessions, receive constructive feedback and promoting learners to experiment in a safe and supportive environment.

·       To develop a strong peer to peer support group to give continuous updates and future learning as well as nurturing friendships to those most isolated.

·       To develop mentors for future and ongoing support opportunities.

Little Lifts

‘If someone had described it to me beforehand, I would have thought it a ‘nice idea’ without having given much thought to how important the sentiment is … With one box, I no longer felt that we were alone dealing with a life-changing situation … It is not a Box of cutlery and tea bags, it is a gesture of compassion and understanding sent without judgement and with no expectation, from fellow members of a club that no one wants to be part of’ - Little Lifts Beneficiary
